Elementary
Our Elementary School program is designed to inspire curiosity, confidence, and a love of learning during a child’s most important early years. Students build strong foundations in reading, writing, math, and science through engaging, hands-on experiences that encourage exploration and discovery. With a focus on creativity, character development, and social growth, our learners develop the skills, independence, and enthusiasm they need for a successful transition into middle school and beyond.
The Elementary Department is comprised of Grades 1 to 5. Students are segregated from Grade 4 in the classroom, but share common areas and school facilities throughout the day.
The Educational Program
We offer your child a broad and balanced curriculum which places emphasis upon the major aspects of children’s physical, emotional, social and cognitive development. The curriculum promotes child-centered learning and will provide your child with a challenging, stimulating environment. In the Elementary School we follow the Common Core Standards. These standards have been modified to meet the student’s needs. All the teaching resources are American schemes.
Grade 1
A’Takamul International School is proud to welcome families into a nurturing and engaging first-grade experience built on the values of Respect, Responsibility, Results, and Recreation. Our program is designed to support both academic growth and personal development, helping students transition smoothly from KG into a more structured learning environment. Parents are encouraged to partner closely with teachers through daily reading practice, healthy routines, and open communication via ClassDojo. With a strong focus on responsibility, organization, and healthy habits, students are guided toward becoming confident, motivated learners from the very start of their school journey.
During the first quarter, students explore a rich and well-rounded curriculum that builds strong foundations across all subjects. In Math, they develop number sense, basic addition and subtraction, and problem-solving skills. In Science, they investigate plant growth, animal communication, and light and shadow through hands-on exploration. Social Studies encourages leadership, collaboration, and understanding community responsibility, while Reading and Spelling strengthen literacy through engaging texts and phonics instruction. This balanced approach ensures that every child grows academically, socially, and emotionally in a supportive and inspiring environment.
Grade 2
Second Grade at A’Takamul International School offers a joyful, inspiring, and well-structured educational experience where students are encouraged to grow academically, socially, and morally. The program is built on the core values of Respect, Responsibility, Results, and Recreation, guiding students to become confident, motivated, and independent learners. Strong character development, student well-being, and a love for reading are central to the second-grade journey, and families are welcomed as partners in supporting each child’s success. Students are encouraged to challenge themselves, work hard, and take pride in their educational path.
Throughout Quarter 1, students follow a rich and engaging curriculum that strengthens essential academic skills across all subjects. In Language Arts, they develop grammar, spelling, phonics, reading comprehension, and writing through storytelling and the writing process. In Math, students build strong number sense to 100, master addition and subtraction strategies, and solve word problems with confidence. Science introduces living and non-living things, habitats, and animal adaptations, while Social Studies builds map skills, geographic awareness, and knowledge of Arab countries, flags, and currencies. Through hands-on activities, critical thinking, and exploration, second graders grow into capable, curious, and enthusiastic learners.
Grade 3
Third Grade at A’Takamul International School is an exciting and rewarding step in every child’s academic journey, built on the core values of Respect, Responsibility, Results, and Recreation. This year is designed to challenge students while nurturing their confidence, independence, and love for learning. Strong emphasis is placed on reading, writing, and mathematics, with families encouraged to support their children at home through daily reading routines, writing practice, and fun math activities. With a positive school environment, clear expectations, and a strong partnership between home and school, students are motivated to work hard, grow in character, and achieve their very best.
Throughout Quarter One, students engage in a rich and engaging curriculum across all subjects. In Reading and Writing, they explore narrative elements, analyze characters, sequence events, and develop their writing through the full writing process—from brainstorming to publishing. In Math, students build strong number sense through place value, multiplication, and multi-digit addition and subtraction. Science introduces life cycles, plants, animals, and scientific investigation skills, while Social Studies develops map-reading skills, cardinal directions, and grid systems. Through hands-on learning, critical thinking, and exploration, third graders grow into confident, capable learners ready for success.
Grade 4
Grade 4 at A’Takamul International School provides a rich and engaging learning experience that supports academic growth, independence, and responsibility. Our experienced teachers work closely with parents and students to ensure strong communication and consistent support through platforms such as Skoolee for academic progress and Class Dojo for daily updates. With a structured school day beginning at 7:30 AM, clear expectations for uniform, and an emphasis on healthy habits and daily reading, students are guided to develop strong routines that support long-term success.
Learning in Grade 4 focuses on building strong foundations across all subject areas. In English, students explore a variety of genres, expand their vocabulary, and strengthen their writing skills through narratives and grammar practice. In Mathematics, students deepen number sense, master multiplication, solve word problems, and explore patterns. Science encourages curiosity about Earth, landforms, fossils, and the environment, while Social Studies develops geographical understanding and knowledge of Kuwait’s natural world. Together, these learning experiences prepare students to become confident, capable, and responsible learners.
Grade 5
Fifth Grade at A’Takamul International School is a year of growth, independence, and deeper learning. Students strengthen their reading and math foundations while developing critical thinking and communication skills. Daily reading at home is encouraged to build fluency and comprehension, and math practice focuses on number sense, multiplication, and problem-solving in real-world contexts. Teachers, parents, and students work together through open communication, supported by tools like Class Dojo, to ensure a successful learning journey.
In Grade 5, students explore a variety of texts including realistic fiction, autobiographies, and narrative nonfiction, while practicing spelling patterns and writing personal narratives with detail and clarity. Math instruction emphasizes place value, number forms, and decimals, while science introduces the scientific method, matter, mixtures, and chemical changes. Social studies covers maps, directions, and geography, with a special focus on Kuwait’s topography, plants, and animals. With a balance of academic rigor and curiosity-driven exploration, Grade 5 prepares students for success in middle school and beyond.
Islamic Department
Our Elementary Islamic Studies Department nurtures young learners with a strong foundation in faith, morals, and Islamic identity. The curriculum, fully aligned with the Ministry of Education requirements in Kuwait, introduces students to Qur’an, Hadith, basic Fiqh, and Islamic stories in an engaging and age-appropriate way. Through meaningful lessons and practical examples, students learn to connect Islamic values with their everyday lives, building character, responsibility, and love for their religion.
Arabic Department
Our Elementary Arabic Department builds a strong foundation in language skills while nurturing students’ love for the Arabic language and appreciation of Kuwaiti culture. The curriculum, fully aligned with the Ministry of Education requirements in Kuwait, focuses on developing reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills through engaging, age-appropriate lessons.
Students learn proper letter formation, spelling, vocabulary, and sentence structure while gradually building confidence in reading comprehension and creative expression. Through stories, poems, dialogues, and cultural activities, learners explore their heritage and values, strengthening their identity and communication skills. Interactive learning strategies, games, and collaborative activities make Arabic learning enjoyable and meaningful, supporting students in becoming confident and fluent young readers and writers.
ICT Department
Our Elementary ICT Department provides students with a strong foundation in digital literacy through engaging, hands-on, and inquiry-based learning experiences. Students are introduced to basic coding concepts, computational thinking, and digital creativity using age-appropriate tools and platforms. They learn how to use technology responsibly, develop safe online communication habits, and understand the importance of digital citizenship.
Through interactive projects, educational games, and introductory robotics activities, students design, build, and program simple models that encourage problem-solving, teamwork, and logical thinking. These experiences help learners develop confidence with technology while nurturing curiosity, creativity, and innovation—preparing them to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
Music Department
Our Elementary Music Department brings learning to life through sound, rhythm, and creativity. Students explore the exciting world of music through singing, movement, percussion instruments, and interactive activities that make every lesson joyful and meaningful. From keeping a steady beat to creating simple melodies, learners develop essential musical skills while expressing themselves with confidence.
Children are introduced to a wide variety of musical styles and cultures, helping them appreciate the power of music as a universal language. Through classroom performances, group ensembles, and creative composition projects, students build teamwork, discipline, and self-confidence. The program nurtures imagination, inspires a lifelong love of music, and gives every child the opportunity to shine on stage and beyond.
PE Department
Our Elementary Physical Education Department promotes healthy lifestyles, physical fitness, and positive social development through a wide variety of fun, engaging, and age-appropriate activities. Students develop fundamental movement skills such as running, jumping, throwing, catching, and balancing while improving strength, coordination, flexibility, and endurance.
Through team games, individual challenges, and cooperative activities, learners build confidence, discipline, and sportsmanship while learning the importance of teamwork, respect, and perseverance. The program emphasizes safety, fair play, and healthy habits, helping students understand the value of staying active and making positive choices. By fostering a love for movement and physical activity at an early age, our program encourages lifelong wellness and prepares students for success both in and out of the classroom.
Counseling Department
The Elementary Counseling Department at ATIS plays a vital role in nurturing students’ well-being and personal growth in a caring and supportive environment. With a dedicated team of three professional counselors, the department offers individualized support, small-group sessions, and classroom guidance lessons that focus on building confidence, emotional awareness, problem-solving skills, and positive peer relationships.
Our counselors work closely with teachers and families to ensure each child feels safe, heard, and valued. Through proactive programs, character education, and social-emotional learning activities, students learn how to manage their feelings, make responsible choices, and develop resilience. The department is committed to helping every learner thrive academically, socially, and emotionally—creating a strong foundation for lifelong success.
